Georgia Scott, the art director for the Sunday Styles section of The New York Times, recently received the Knight International Press Fellowship to train and to travel in Indonesia for four months. She visited dozens of newspapers and magazines on the islands of Java, Bali, Sulawesi, Sumatera, Kalimantan, Flores and Papua.
Prior to her departure to New York, Pantau Foundation is to organize a two-day workshop with Ms. Scott. She will talk about the state of newspaper design in Indonesia. How does it compare internationally?
What is the challenge of news design in Indonesia in the future? How do newspapers establish dedicated research for their graphics people? How do newspapers manage on deadlines? What are the resources to improve a newspaper design? How maximize internet research?
The workshop is aimed for newspaper designers, magazine art directors, news editors or news designers. The workshop is also intended to let the participants sharpen their skills on news design.

Biodata
Georgia Scott’s responsibilities at The New York Times, where she has worked since 1993, also included page design for The Arts, Arts and Leisure, Sports, Dining and various regional sections, as well as cartography and graphics.
She is also the author of "Headwraps: A Global Journey," for which she took a one-year leave of absence in 2000 to travel and research.
The book was the first to include the stories and peoples around the world who wear head coverings for fashion, religion, or tradition, and the work was critically acclaimed as a study on global traditions.
Scott has also written articles for Essence, EssenceOnline and Choices, the magazine of the United Nations Development Program. Scott received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Visual Communications from Grambling State University in 1992. She is originally from St. Louis.

Class maximum capacity 18 seats. The Knight Foundation covers Scott’s international travel and accommodation. Pantau and its partners cover the national trips and workshops. Each participant is kindly required to contribute Rp 1 million for lunches, rent classroom, workshop kit, sertificate and T-shirt.
